‘H-Timber’ is a range of timber outward casement and reversible windows and balcony doors with a 95mm frame depth, designed specifically for use with the Spilka range of hinges and accessories. This system is one of the longest standing, and most popular windows used across the Norwegian window and door industry and has been established for many years with great success.
Domestic and project
The flexibility within this system gives it the possibility to be used in building projects of all scales. It fits excellently with the majority of our domestic projects but also with specification and performance driven projects where high performance u-values or Secured by Designaccredited security levels are required.
The simple, modern, clean lines of the profiles attract the interest of many architects and the depth of the profiles (frame and sash) allow for the use of double or triple-glazed units (up to 36mm) to be used, meaning that both high performance units can be used as well as special acoustic units, or units with integral blinds.
As standard all products are supplied with multi-point locking espagnolette mechanisms, and H type Hinges to allow cleaning from the inside, and with sealed unit double-glazing with a centre-pane u-value of 1.0W/m2K (overall glass and frame u-value approx 1.3W/m2K) or triple glazing with a centre pane u-value of 0.7W/m2k (overall glass and frame u-value approx 1.0W/m2K).
Finish as delivered
Frames are supplied pre-assembled, pre-glazed and beautifully finished with a full factory coating from a wide range of stains or paints. It is also possible to have a 2 colour system with a different finish from inside to outside, meaning that a clear lacquer could be used internally if you wanted to appreciate that natural beauty of the timber without any additional colouring.
All paints and stains that we are using are water based micro-porous products from Akzo-Nobel. Click on the information TAB and then finishes at the top of the page to view a sample of the range available. Actual timber samples are sent out upon receipt of order to help assist in the correct colour choice for your project. Factory applied paint finishes from the RAL classic range (approx 250 colours), or the NCS range (approx 2000 colours).
Glazing
All H-timber products are externally beaded with a drained and ventilated design to ensure maximum life expectancy.
Double-glazed units 4–16-4mm with soft-coat low-e and Argon gas filling come as standard with a centre-pane u-value of 1.0W/m2K. Where safety glass is required the panes can simply become toughened, or a laminated pane could be added for enhanced safety and security.
Triple-glazed units 4-12-4-12-4mm with 2 x soft-coat low-e and argon gas filling is optional to provide a centre-pane u-value of 0.7.
In addition, specialist glazed units incorporating acoustic, solar control and self-cleaning are available, as well as integral blinds, sandblasted or decorative obscure glass for extra privacy.
Glazing bars
There are 2 main kinds of glazing bars to the system, structural and decorative.
Structural bars know as transoms (horizontal) or mullions (vertical) are use to separate 2 pieces of glass in either a fixed or an opening light, and also as the structural element between an opener and a fixed when built into 1 frame.
When dividing 2 pieces of glass the transom or mullion is 54, 68 or 78mm, and when as a structural element between an opener and a fixed is 78mm.
Multiple transoms and mullions can be built into 1 frame to create multiple-pane effects to your design requirements, as can decorative glazing bars….
Decorative glazing bars are a thinner more elegant solution to those who wish to create a more traditional appearance to their windows and doors. This option includes a 24mm timber glazing bar that is clipped onto the outer face of the glass unit only. The glazing bars are easily removable so that when it comes to cleaning the outside face of the windows, the bars are unclipped (as one) and you clean 1 glass face, rather than multiple.
