‘Style 68 Alu+’ is a range of aluminium-clad timber, inward opening tilt and turn windows designed a classic frame profile with 68mm depth, but with an additional outer pane for improved thermal and acoustic performance.
‘Domestic’ and ‘project’
The multiple function of the ‘style 68 Alu+’, tilt and turn window, makes it a very popular choice on many projects for commercial, residential and domestic use. With enhanced Security options, to many optional accessories for safety or comfort, this system caters for the whole market, and is available at a very competitive price. The external aluminium cladding provides a strong, durable external surface requiring minimum maintenance which both reduces future costs and improves the life expectancy of the product
If you want all of the advantages associated with Style 68 Alu+ window, but require better overall u-values and / or acoustics then the Style 68 Alu+ has 2 big brothers offering exactly the same solution but with a deeper frame depth of either 80mm (see comfort 80 Alu and Alu+) or 92mm (see elit-92 Alu and Alu+).
Function
The style 68 Alu+, tilt & turn window is available with a tilt first or turn first option. Tilt first is the version that is the standard for UK production: When the sash is opened, the additional outer pane opens also. The external pane, held within its own aluminium sash, can then be opened to allow cleaning in between the double-glazed unit and the single pane, should this be required.
Turn First
A 90° turn of the handle allows the window to operate as a side-hung inward opening casement, to allow the window to be safely and easily cleaned from the inside.
Closing the casement and turning the handle by a further 90° operates the bottom hung, inward opening, 'tilt' function. This ventilation position is controlled by a restrictor arm built into the head of the frame that has multiple positions for varied amounts of ventilation, and cannot be accessed from the outside, thus offering secure ventilation.
Tilt First
This option allows to the window to be opened in tilt mode in the first turn of the handle rather than the second. Using this option gives the flexibility to use additional devices such as 'caretaker handles'; these will restrict the window to tilt mode only for ventilation, unless a key is inserted into the handle. This means that for safety or security, only authorised persons who have the key can access the turn mode for cleaning.
Finish as delivered
Frames are supplied pre-assembled, pre-glazed and beautifully finished with a full factory coating from a wide range of stains or paints or lacquer internally. The aluminium externally is finished in either a polyester powder coating (PPC) or anodised finish. For the PPC the standard RAL classic range is included in the pricing we provide. There are approximately 250 different colours available and there is no set-up charge for any of these colours. We can also offer a number of specialist powder coatings including textured and metallic finishes. If you have a specific requirement for the aluminium then please contact us to discuss – there are many other types of coatings on the market that we will be happy to look into, although there must be a reasonable quantity of products (i.e. for project work), and also a set up cost.
All paints and stains that we are using internally are water based micro-porous products from Akzo-Nobel. Click on the information TAB and then finishes at the top of the page to view a sample of the range available. Actual timber samples are sent out upon receipt of order to help assist in the correct colour choice for your project. Factory applied paint finishes from the RAL classic range (approx 250 colours), or the NCS range (approx 2000 colours) can be used internally.
Glazing
Style 68 Alu+ products are internally beaded with secret nailing
Double-glazed units 4–20-4mm with soft-coat low-e and Argon gas filling come as standard with a centre-pane u-value of 1.0W/m2K (overall glass and frame U-value – including the additional outer pane is 1.18W/m2K). Where safety glass is required the panes can simply become toughened, or a laminated pane could be added for enhanced safety and security.
The additional outer pane is 6mm clear float as standard.
In addition, specialist glazed units incorporating acoustic, solar control and self-cleaning are available, as well as sandblasted or decorative obscure glass for extra privacy.
Glazing bars
There are 2 main kinds of glazing bars to the system, structural and decorative.
Structural bars know as transoms (horizontal) or mullions (vertical) are use to separate 2 pieces of glass in either a fixed or an opening light, and also as the structural element between an opener and a fixed when built into 1 frame.
When dividing 2 pieces of glass the transom or mullion can be 66mm, 80mm or 126mm and when as a structural element between an opener and a fixed can be 110mm, or 124mm.
Multiple transoms and mullions can be built into 1 frame to create multiple-pane effects to your design requirements, as can decorative glazing bars….
The Decorative glazing bars available for the Alu-combi system are within the sealed unit, but without internal or externally planted bars.
