• Hendras Hotel Seaside Complex

    A combination of aluminium and timber composite windows and external doors from Olsen UK was specified for a new luxury hotel and apartment complex, the Hendras Hotel in the beautiful Carbis Bay, St Ives, Cornwall.

    Architects, Form Design Group of Plymouth needed to find products of high quality with exceptional performance for this high end severe-exposure site which commands panoramic views across the North Cornwall coast.

    Form Design’s architectural technician Stephen Pring told us “We were looking for a range of doors, windows and curved screens all of which could be tailor-made to bespoke sizes as well as having high thermal and climatic exposure performance. We also needed products with clean lines to meet some very particular aesthetic requirements. Although quality and performance were paramount, we also had to find a supplier who could provide the products within budget. Olsen met all these requirements. Not only that, but now that the project has been completed I can say that Olsen’s service throughout the project was exactly what we expected from a thoroughly professional company.”

    The specification presented to Olsen came with some very detailed demands.
    The Aluminium and timber composite material was finished to RAL 7011 colour on the outside. Internal timber was finished to a range of paint from the NCS system - NCS S 0500. Top-swing reversible hinges were specified for the majority of openings to the main residences, with built-in child safety catches and restrictors for main client use. The special restrictors reverse through 180 degrees to allow cleaning from the inside (without coming inside of the building) when the restrictor is over-ridden by the caretaker or maintenance team.

    What’s more the architects called for special curved screens that made up a façade, incorporating glass look-a-like panels to conceal walls behind the screens. All-in-all, the eye catching building has been finished to a incredibly high standard, in no small part due to the ability of Olsen to meet their client’s demanding specification. Prideaux Developments of Truro and Main contractor ROK plc are said to be delighted with the finished project.
